# Introduction

> Trade combos on Hyperliquid HIP-4 outcome markets: request a quote, market makers compete to fill it, and the position settles on HyperEVM.

Totalis lets you trade Hyperliquid's HIP-4 outcome markets as singles or combos. A **single** is one
outcome and trades on the HyperCore order book. A **combo** is several outcomes in one position that
pays in full only if every leg wins. Combos are request-for-quote: market makers compete to quote yours, and
you take the best price with one signature. Totalis holds the position in its vault on HyperEVM and
pays you when the markets settle.

You can also put Totalis in your own frontend, where your users trade with their own wallets:

## Try it without an account

Market data is public. This call needs no key and no signup:

```bash theme={null}
curl "https://hip4-api.totalis.trade/v1/markets?limit=3"
```

Market reads, RFQ reads and [Get deployment](https://docs.totalis.trade/hyperliquid/api-reference/deployment/get-deployment.md) are public. Every
other account, trading and maker route needs an API key or a [wallet session](https://docs.totalis.trade/hyperliquid/build/partner-frontend.md#sessions). Start with the [Quickstart](https://docs.totalis.trade/hyperliquid/quickstart.md).

## How it works

**1. Ask for quotes**

[Create an RFQ](https://docs.totalis.trade/hyperliquid/api-reference/rfqs/create-rfq.md) with your legs and a stake. Every
maker sees it at once.

**2. Makers compete**

Each maker answers with a `payout`: what the position pays if every leg wins. Quotes reach you
live on the [WebSocket](https://docs.totalis.trade/hyperliquid/guides/realtime.md).

**3. Accept and fill**

Sign the quote you want and [accept it](https://docs.totalis.trade/hyperliquid/api-reference/quotes/accept-quote.md). The maker
has 2 seconds to confirm or decline. Totalis puts the trade on-chain and pays the gas.

**4. Settle, or cash out first**

When the markets resolve, Totalis settles the position and pays a win into your vault balance.
Nothing to call or sign. To leave early, [cash out](https://docs.totalis.trade/hyperliquid/guides/trading.md#cash-out): makers bid
for the position.

## Both sides of a trade

| Step | Taker | Maker |
| - | - | - |
| 1 | [Create RFQ](https://docs.totalis.trade/hyperliquid/api-reference/rfqs/create-rfq.md): legs and a stake. | Receives `RFQ_CREATED`. |
| 2 | Receives `QUOTE_CREATED`. | [Create quote](https://docs.totalis.trade/hyperliquid/api-reference/quotes/create-quote.md): the payout. |
| 3 | [Accept quote](https://docs.totalis.trade/hyperliquid/api-reference/quotes/accept-quote.md) with a signature. | Receives `QUOTE_ACCEPTED`. |
| 4 | The accept response carries the maker's answer. | [Confirm quote](https://docs.totalis.trade/hyperliquid/api-reference/quotes/confirm-quote.md) with a signature, or decline. |
| 5 | Holds the position. | Backs it from the maker vault. |

Your USDC sits in your Totalis wallet and the vault contract. The vault moves funds only with a
signature from the funds' owner. You do not need to deposit before you trade: an accept with signed `funding` pulls any shortfall from your
wallet, and the SDK adds it for you. Winnings are claimed for you.

## The essentials

| | |
| - | - |
| Base URL | `https://hip4-api.totalis.trade`, on HyperEVM (chain ID `999`) |
| Auth | `Authorization: Bearer <key>` ([Authentication](https://docs.totalis.trade/hyperliquid/authentication.md)). Market reads and the deployment need no key. |
| Staging | `https://hip4-api-staging.totalis.trade`, on HyperEVM testnet (chain ID `998`): [Staging](https://docs.totalis.trade/hyperliquid/build/staging.md) |
| Amounts | Strings in USDC atomic units: `"25000000"` is 25 USDC |
| Gas | Totalis pays it for takers. Makers pay their own, in HYPE. |
| Separate from Solana | The [Solana API](https://docs.totalis.trade/solana/quickstart.md) has its own keys and endpoints |
